After completing her Bachelor of Engineering degree in Information Technology (IT), she applied to get commission in Pakistan Army. She was able to get in the Pakistan Army after competing at different levels. Currently she is serving as Information and Communication
Captain Marium is the first female commissioned officer from Gojal valley and one of the very few from GB who may have joined this profession. Currently she is serving as Information and Communication Technology Officer, at the rank of Captain, after successfully passing out from the Pakistan Military Academy.
Marium had, earlier, studied at Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Hunza and Public School and College Gilgit.
While the world celebrates the “16 days of activism”, the editorial team of Pamir Times thought it appropriate to highlight the achievement of a young lady who dared to dream different and worked hard to realize her dream.
The story of Captain Marium is also the saga of a relatively new chapter in history of the women of Gilgit – Baltistan.
Sharista Baig – the first female fighter pilot of Gilgit Baltistan, Wali sisters – the skiers who won accolades for their country at international level and Captain Marium, among many others, are icons of the capacity of our region’s women to excel in all fields, if provided with the opportunity, support and encouragement.
We are proud of the mothers and daughters of Gilgit – Baltistan who have been able to excel in different fields of life despite of social numbness, at best, and resistance, at worst, with the help of their determination, vision and some support from immediate family members.
[wpg width="250" height="550" align="left"] Mr Sartaj Karim: Team Ellusion
Ellusion=illusion. “E” known for style and attraction and ellusion means innovation of new ideas ( Illusionism in art). Music, known as the food for soul. we like to prepare healthy and tasty food though. Now comes a distinct thing existing in our band: we are working to introduce a new genre of music like Junoon did (sufi rock). and the details will b published soon. but let me tell you guys that we are working on our cultural music, thinking to make a fusion of it by the melody of western instruments.
Ellusion, standing on the shoulders of 4 zealous artist, who perceive music as their belief and reason of life. they are student by profession and artist by heart. they believe that music is the source of changing the imagination into practicality, these four boys have are friends by relation and they also think that the bond in between them is also because of music…… I still remember when I was in class 8th and residing in Gilgit, and my friend Sohail Romy in abbotabad, we returned to village to spend our vacations. I was surprised to see the way he was playing the guitar, and I was glad to see his love towards music. I was also interested in music and much interested in keyboard, so we started gigging together and built a good combination but we were not matured enough to emerge as a band and our experiences were not that much matured. But we admired to form a band in future. Later on In sep 2006 it was a lucky month for us. Mr. Romy recorded his first song at “Bomb beat” studio Abbotabad with the help of Haider Hashmi (zulfi) guitarist of AAROH band. Then we shifted to Islamabad for higher education and we were having a good platform to form a band. We got a lead guitarist Mr. Shafa and Tanveer as a rhythm guitarist. We were known as Krumianx the band but later on we changed the name of our band as Ellusion the band.
Music is a mode for treating minds and beliefs if felt from the heart. I can say quite confidently that if today’s youth get indulge in these sort of activities nothing can detract their minds towards bad activities. Music can be used as a tool for awareness and bringing positive changes in societies. Being an artist we are also working on a motivational song covering the social issues of our society which will be released soon Inshallah. Off course our customs are endangered but culture in our view is something non static, it can change but the essence should remain as it was in the past era of our ancestors. We can save our culture by promoting, practicing and reviewing it. Gilgit-Baltistan is well known for its beauty and diversity, our message to the youth would be that remain united, and stress on the positive aspects of diversity, a time will come when Gilgit baltistan will emerge as a role model for the entire world.

Team OEC appreciates the effort of our players and strongly recommends that we need to promote and highlight the hidden potential of Gilgit-Baltistan.
It starts years back when I got admission NUST, where we use to find every other way to have fun. My friends urged me on a bet to climb a building from back side to the floor. That went well and started another turn in my life because later the same friends introduced me to the club and so life too to this level that one day I become a National Player of Pakistan.
The feeling of representing your nation somewhere outside you country is a great feeling, which only a person in Green Coat overwhelms with. This summer when I was in Gilgit, I got a phone call from Alpine Club of Pakistan and informed that I have been put on the list for National Sports climbing team. I first thought, “Is that it? Is this what we call the dream comes true. What is more than just being on the list for National Team’s selection list?” I was not sure of my selection as because when you come in competition you always have to see both ways. However I had faith in myself and much more on God, who has bestowed upon me great success in such a little time. At last I was called to Islamabad for further official works.
This was the nascent Sports climbing team of Pakistan ever created and it was going to participate in competitions in China. This whole thing was so fast that we even didn’t much training time but prepared well to our caliber. As we already knew we had a big storm of competitors ahead and we had a big storm of expectations in us back in the country. Being the first and also getting first exposure internationally we had a load of pressure.
I had been all the way calm and relaxed because I was sure I would do my best and try till my last calorie of energy is lost. We arrived in Beijing, travelled to Changzhi where the World Sports Climbing Festival was held. Right after arriving there we went to the stadium where we were welcomed very heartily. I was amazed to see the crowd cheering and welcoming the teams from different countries. During our visit we had a good company of Athletes from about 20 different countries. We didn’t have a good result in the competitions so there is nothing to boast about. But the experience and learning are more than a getting just a title.
People meet and leave and never see but there memories and the deeds you learn from and experience with them remains with you all the way down to the grave. China has always been a friendly country but we have always seen it from our country but when you enter in to it you see the really brotherly feeling they have for us and our country. I want to mention many official dinners when any official comes to the Pakistani Team table you use to through a toast saying,” Pakistan-China: Brothers”. Like officials Chinese people never disappointed and warmly welcomed and showed friendly behavior. I met with various students there studying English in their universities.
What learnt from China trip is lot more to explain in some words but would say that I had learnt a lot of things which could guide me in my career. I would like to mention the most important aspects of Chinese people. They are very welcoming and very friendly so that you never expect from them for any help. They are a great deal learning about commitment and punctuality to one’s work. Chinese are a great people to learn from because they have developed in last 30 years and we are just close to them. Their commitment and honesty to their country remains the ultimate reason of success.
I would like to mention as an athlete I would see the healthy activities of people which never affect their career negatively rather they have a greatly positive effect. Activities like outdoor sports are greatly important for a healthy student if he wants to feel alive. I am in final year of my studies and hopefully done with this by next few months but I have never given up at anyone these professions. I would say Engineer and Climbing are very important parts of my life. One is career and one is passion. Now it’s up to you to decide your passion and your career. Never gave up at any of these because if there is one path that you think you have to take to be in the line and if you choose that one path that doesn’t mean you have to abandon all the other ones.
