I. Self-discovery: Provide students with an opportunity to think about their selves and try to explore their strengths and weaknesses.
II. Confidence Building Measures (CBMs): The self discovery session is followed by Confidence building Measures, in which the students get involved in activities which are meant to boost up their self confidence so that the participants are better able to voice their concerns and views.
III. Career Info Hour: CBMs are followed by a Career Info Hour during which the resource persons from the organization give the participants with career related information which includes fields of study, universities and scholarships opportunities.
IV. Individual Counseling Session: This is an innovative idea of the Team OEC to make the Education Expo more effective. During this the team members individually sort out queries of students regarding any particular field of study.
The team started the year with an Education Expo held in Oshikhandass village near Gilgit city in which more than 250 students from grade 8th to 12th were present. The schools with which the team collaborated were Jinnah Public school and D J High School Oshkhandss. Along with this, the team also discussed various challenges faced by these schools. In a series of Education Expos the team organized another session at Noor Colony Gilgit where around 80 students studying in high schools and colleges of Gilgit City attended the session. The last event of this series was organized at Sedena Degree College Zulfiqarabad Gilgit in which at least 50 to 60 students were present.
In the summer of the year 2010 the team successfully organized three of Educational Expos. The first was arranged at Gilgit College of Commerce & Economics (GCCE) Hunza where around 100 students belonging to different valleys of Hunza participated. Students even came all the way from Sost, the upper most region of Hunza, and Khizerabad the lower most village of Hunza. Following this, the team organized the second Educational Expo at GCCE, Gilgit where around 30 students were entertained. The last session was held at CEENA Orphanage and Welfare Foundation in which around 30 to forty students were entertained.
So, during the year 2009-2010, team OEC was able to conduct six Education Expos in the aforementioned regions of Gilgit-Baltistan. And, in these sessions around 500 students were given educational information, inspiration and guidance.
Departure from Gilgit: On August 23, 2011 our team of OEC moved to Hunza Valley for students’ career counseling sessions, at sharp 8:00 am. Our team consisted of Madam Shah Bano (AKES’P), Imtiaz Ali Taj (LUMS), Waseem Khan (NUST), LIaqat Karim (NUST), Nazia Wajid (NUST), Jibran Hayat (FAST), Imran Ahmad (COMSATS), Iftikhar Ahmad (COMSATS), Sania Yousaf (Bahria), Tarick Amin (Sir Syed) and Muhammad Aman Shah (KIU).
Session at Aliabad: Our team reached at Aliabad Hunza at 12:30pm for the first session with students, but the students really disappointed our team because we were to wait for two hours. After such a long waiting, only 24 students from all over the entire Aliabad, participated in the session. Students of class 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th attained the session. Any how our team entertained them collectively as well as individually. We presented a general presentation regarding the opportunities and the services provided by public and private sectors in various fields to furnish the careers of students. Then we gave proper time to individual students to make the session more fruitful and effective. Meanwhile a group of our team members also assigned some activities to access the students’ targets and goals.
Session at Hyderabad: After a successful session at Aliabad we went to the Hyderabad at 6:00 pm. There were around 120 students from all over the Hyderabad cluster. Our team was confident and was encouraged by the crowed. Unfortunately we could not conclude our session due to shortage of time; however our team experts gave full information about the field of engineering; as majority of the students were willing to set a career in the field of engineering.
Session at AKHSS, Karimabad: On August 24, 2011 our team reached at AKHSS, Hunza, Karimabad at 9:30 am. A big crowed of around 170 students inspired our team, with bright and shining dreams about their future careers. An enriched literal and civilized environment was provided by the family of AKHSS, Hunza. Our team had the same schedule that we followed at Aliabad. It was an excellent and fruitful session. Our team also learns a lot of strategies for future planning of such similar sessions.
Conclusion: Though the session was very much successful. But it is said that there is always a room for improvement. Keeping this in mind the sessions would be more successful if there would be much more number of students, participating in the sessions; especially in Aliabad. As our team was willing to aware more and more people. We also faced many challenges regarding time spam. We could deliver our presentations if we were allowed to stay one or two more days by the sponsored bodies. However our team members were able enough to cover the whole session within a short period of time. We had almost achieved our objectives. About 90% of our tour plan was practiced.
